I had no idea...

I really didn't. I had just heard from a few people about the books and innocently put my name on the waiting list at the library for all three. Finished them in about two weeks. Yea, they were great! But I had no idea how big her following was!! Just the sheer number of fan sites is amazing. She's HUGE to say the least. With #4 coming in August and the movie coming in Dec., I hope this quick rise to fame isn't short lived, for her sake. Bigger than Harry Potter??? That's quite a statement.

They are fun huh. I first heard about them from my mother-in-law and her sister. They were chatting about vampires and love and I just laughed out loud.

But then I read them and really enjoyed them. And now I may reread them to prepare myself for the last. Glad you enjoyed them.

You can read a funny post Matt did about them at http://mywiferules.blogspot.com/2008/04/wife-rule-36-shes-probably-in-twilight.html

Yeah, they are pretty addicting. Bigger than Harry Potter? Probably not. I think she is benefiting from the improved publicity for young adult novels that is a result of the Harry Potter phenomenon. In terms of quality, in no way do they surpass Harry Potter. HP books are much better written overall. Another author who I think is superior and whose novels I love---Shannon Hale. That being said, vampires and steamy tension do sell. And believe me, I will be reading #4 in August (it is actually Twilight told from Edward's perspective.) She also has another novel out--The Host which I plan on stealing from my sister this weekend. You should check it out.

No way no how are they as good as Harry Potter. I totally agree with you Lady Susan. But I did not know that about #4 being told from Edward's perspective. I've heard about "The Host" but also heard it wasn't as good.
Brooke--I love your husband's blog!! The "sneeze" was awesome, very clever!

Oops! I guess I was confused. Midnight Sun is the title of the book from Edward's perspective. You can read the first chapter here:

It should be her next project. Regarding The Host, My sister thought that it was probably on par with New Moon. Not as good as Twilight, but better than Eclipse. I am intrigued enough to read it. I will let you know. ;)
